    Chronic pain affects 20 per cent of Canadians. The assessment and the management of chronic pain is now taught well in medical school. As well, there are ongoing controversies regarding chronic pain management, especially with opioids. This workshop will empower participants with the knowledge needed to assess patients with chronic pain, address risks for addiction, and manage chronic pain patients safely. Topics will include pain assessment, review of addiction risks, non-pharmacological management of pain, and pharmacological management of pain. This session will include both didactic and interactive components. Care is taken to engage the audience in a lively discussion regarding the management of this often challenging patient population.

    • Perform a complete assessment of a patient with chronic pain.
    • Assess patient with chronic pain for addition risk.
    • Prescribe appropriate therapy for a patient with chronic pain.
